I'm trying to come to terms with my dad's failing mind. He was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia AND Alzheimer's Disease in June 2016.

That doesn't look like any Red Admiral I've seen,they tend to have more black in the wing.
You are right Andrew. I've done some research and discovered that it is a 'Peacock' butterfly and is 'one of the signs of spring' according to the BBC Springwatch project.
